Germany, SS. A Waffen-SS EM/NCO’s M43 Field Cap
(Waffen-SS Feldmütze). Constructed of field-grey wool. The cap is fully surrounded by scalloped fold-down side panels, secured in place at the front with a reinforced buttonhole on the luft flap meeting a bakelite button on the right flap. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia in the form of a field-grey rayon trapezoid bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey SS-style Totenkopf, topped by a SS-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. The insignia measures 60 mm (w) x 45 mm (h). A protruding cardboard-reinforced visor completes the exterior features. A complete dark grey rayon liner fully encompasses the interior, which presents plain, with the exception of a black ink size stamp of “56”. The cap measures 190 mm (w) x 250 mm (l) x 130 mm (h). The cardboard visor reinforcement has cracked in the middle, and minor material fatigue is evident. It is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
