Germany, SS. A Waffen-SS Officer’s White-Piped M43 Field Cap
(Waffen-SS Einheitsfeldmütze M43 für Offiziere). An extremely well-preserved Waffen-SS Officer’s M43f field cap, constructed of field-grey whipcord wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, scalloped at the front, providing optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the panels are rolled up and secured in place with pebbled and grey-painted magnetic metal buttons emanating from the right flap and meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. A length of white wool piping fully trims the outer edge of the crown, indicating manufacture of no earlier than 1944. Stitched onto the peak of the cap is an insignia consisting of a field-grey trapezoid bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey SS-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, just above a second pattern SS-style Totenkopf of identical construction. The peak insignia measures 62 mm (w) x 50 mm (h) overall. Completing the exterior features is a protruding cardboard-reinforced visor lined in identical wool. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece grey herringbone twill (HBT) liner, marked on the crown with a black ink size mark of “56” and a letter “W”. It measures approximately 205 mm (w) x 250 mm (l) x 120 mm (h). Demonstrating no evident damage or wear, this cap is in a near mint condition.
