Germany, SS. A Waffen-SS Panzer EM/NCO’s Dachau-Style M43 Field Cap
(Waffen-SS Einheitsfeldmütze M43 für Männer der Panzertruppe). An extremely well-preserved Waffen-SS Panzer EM/NCO’s M43 field cap, constructed of black wool. It is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, scalloped at the front, providing optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the panels are rolled up and secured in place at the front with two black bakelite buttons emanating from the right flap and meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. The peak demonstrates no evidence of an insignia ever being stitched in place, indicating that the cap is an unworn surplus example retrieved from the clothing depot at Dachau. Its exterior features complete with a protruding cardboard-reinforced visor, liner on the obverse in black wool and presenting with the core exposed on the reverse. A multi-piece black rayon liner fully encompasses the interior, and is marked on the crown with a white ink size mark of “56”. The cap measures approximately 210 mm (w) x 250 mm (l) x 130 mm (h). Demonstrating no evident damage or wear, it is in an overall near mint condition.
