Germany, SS. A Waffen-SS Panzer EM/NCO’s M43 Field Cap
(Waffen-SS Feldmütze für Panzertruppe). Constructed of black wool. The cap is fully surrounded by scalloped fold-down panels, providing optional ear and neck protection for the wearer. When not in use, the panels are rolled up and secured in place by dual black bakelite buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia in the form of a black rayon trapezoid bearing a SS-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, above a SS-style Totenkopf. The insignia measures 60 mm (w) x 42 mm (h). The exterior features are completed by a protruding cardboard-reinforced visor. A black rayon liner fully encompasses the interior, and presents plain with the exception of a silver size stamp of “58”. It is otherwise unmarked and measures approximately 190 mm (w) x 275 mm (l) x 130 mm (h). Significant deterioration is evident to the eagle insignia, in addition to minor material fatigue of the wool and a central crack to the cardboard core of the visor. It is in an overall very fine condition.
