Germany, Third Reich. A Reichspost M43-Style Service Cap

(Reichspost Einheitsfeldmütze M43). An extremely well-preserved Reichspost M43-style service cap, constructed of dark navy blue wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, gently scalloped at the front, providing optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the panels are rolled up and secured in place at the front with two black-painted magnetic metal buttons which emanate from the right flap and meet an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. The outer edge of the crown is trimmed with a length of red piping. Stitched onto the peak of the cap is an insignia consisting of a dark navy blue rayon trapezoid bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 45 mm (w) x 32 mm (h) overall. Completing the exterior features is a protruding card stock-reinforced visor, fully lined in identical wool. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece black rayon linder. Stamped onto the crown is a Reichsbetriebsnummer (RBNr) of “0/0620/0003” for an unconfirmed maker, a manufacture date of “1944”, and a size mark of “56”. The cap measures approximately 190 mm (w) x 265 mm (l) x 120 mm (h). With only slight spots of material fatigue and scratching evident to the outer wool and button paint, respectively, the cap is in an overall extremely fine condition
