A National Socialist Motor Corps Sturmmann’s Field Cap
An excellent example of a Nationalsozialistisches Kraftfahrkorps (NSKK) Sturmmann (later Obersturmmann) Feldmütze, constructed with pre-war quality black wool exterior, fold down panels with gently sloping, downward scallops to the front and sides, with each panel held in place by two factory sewn stitches. On the left side of the cap is a machine embroidered, hand attached, NSKK inverted triangular insignia in aluminum bullion wire with light blue and black embroidery, illustrating an eagle sitting, with its talons gripping a wreath swastika below, with a ribbon banner above inscribed “NSKK”. In addition, the cap features two vertically oriented (one ontop of the other) silvered aluminum buttons on the front, with the NSKK insignia in high relief, maker marked “RZM M5/82” (Steinhauer & Lück, Lüdenscheid). The left panel also features a strip of aluminum cord piping signifying the rank of Sturmmann (later Obersturmann). The inside is lined in a plain black rayon/cotton blend liner, with a RZM production tag attached to the leftward inside liner (unfortunately illegible). The cap measures 280 mm x 110 mm and is overall very well preserved without signs of mothing or significant damage. The NSKK insignia is slightly loose, but overall still 80% attached to the cap. There also appears to be some slight glue residue in a small affected area towards the rear of the cap. Overall near extremely fine condition.
