An RAD Bergmutze Austrian-Style Mountain Troops Hat - This hat was manufactured in Vienna, Austria. It has a brownish-green wool exterior, fold down flap held up by two silvered pebbled buttons on the front, thick chocolate brown piping along the bottom edge and discreetly hidden by the flap, the buttons with reinforced button holes using brown threading, red, white, black and green embroidered RAD insignia stitched in place on the front peak, inside has a brown leather sweatband stitched in place, the ends stitched together at the rear, the stitched edge of the sweatband trimmed in thin black piping, lined in white cotton, stamped in blue ink which has faded to purple in colour with two rectangular boxes, one inscribed "1 42 RAD BA S", the other inscribed with the Austrian makers label "A.O. des österreichischen REZ FABRIKEN WIEN", with "2" and "42" stamped to the left and "56" size stamped to the right of the latter box, measuring 190 mm x 240 mm x 110 mm, the inside exhibiting a brownish vertical mark at the left rear and light overall soiling. Extremely fine.
