Germany, Feuerschutzpolizei. An EM/NCO’s Visor Cap, by Getes
(Schirmmütze für Männer der Feuerschutzpolizei). A well-preserved Feuerschutzpolizei EM/NCO’s visor cap, constructed of a black/dark blue wool blend. It features reinforced side walls, fully lined on the exterior with a cap band of identical wool. Both the top and bottom edges of the cap band are trimmed with red piping, while an additional band of identical piping trims the outer edge of the crown. Pinned onto the peak is an aluminum tri-colour cockade with a red wool centrepiece, measuring 22 mm in diameter. Directly underneath the cockade, the cap band is pinned with an aluminum Ordnungspolizei insignia in the form of an oval oak leaf wreath overlaid by a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 55 mm (w) x 45 mm (h). Completing the exterior features is a protruding vulcanfibre visor, finished in a matte black on the obverse and in brown on the reverse. The interior features a brown leatherette sweatband set around the sidewalls, and is fully encompassed by a brown oilcloth liner. Stamped onto the crown in black ink is a maker marked of “GETES, NEUESTE FORM”, as well as an illegible handwritten owner’s name. The cap measures approximately 240 mm (w) x 245 mm (l) x 140 mm (h). Issues consistent with age and use are evident, and include some wear to the exterior wool, moderate deterioration of the piping, loss of finish to the visor, and the deterioration of the sweatband. This field-used example is in an overall very fine condition.
