Germany, Ordnungspolizei. A Gendarmerie EM/NCO’s Single-Button M43 Field Cap
(Gendarmerie Einheitsfeldmütze M43 für Mannschaften). An extremely well-preserved Gendarmerie EM/NCO’s single-button M43 field cap, constructed of Police-green wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, scalloped at the front, providing optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the panels are rolled up and secured in place at the front with a single pebbled and silvered zink button. The outer edge of the crown is trimmed with a length of bright orange piping. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia consisting of a hexagonal Police-green rayon backer bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Ordnungspolizei insignia consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath overlaid by a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. The eagle is topped by a tricolour cockcade, while the insignia measures 36 mm (w) x 52 mm (h). Completing the exterior features is a protruding visor with a sturdy card stock core, fully lined in identical wool. The interior features a dark grey leatherette sweatband set across the forehead with its factory original zig-zag stitching. It is fully encompassed by a multi-piece grey cotton liner, stamped on the crown with a size mark of “57”. Otherwise unmarked, the cap measures approximately 195 mm (w) x 255 mm (l) x 130 mm (h). Demonstrating no evident wear or damage, the cap is in an overall near mint condition.
