Germany, Third Reich. A Schutzpolizei M-43 Field Cap, by Clemens Wagner
(Schutzpolizei Einheitsfeldmütze). A very well-preserved Schutzpolizei M-43 style field cap constructed of an early war-style green wool exterior, complemented by a gray cotton-rayon blended interior lining. Vibrant green “Waffenfarbe” piping spans the circumference of the crown, while fold-down panels with downward sloping scallops to the front cover the sides and rear of the neck area when in use. When not in use, the panels are raised with their ends resting upon the visor, joined together by two gray-finished, pebbled fine zinc buttons (maker marked “A&H”) secured by reinforced button holes on the opposing panel. Four reinforced ventilation holes are evenly distributed on the sides. The cap features a machine-embroidered, early-style police insignia portraying a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, overlaying a wreath of oak leaves. The cap measures 273 mm (l) x 190 mm (w) with an interior diameter of 190 mm. The maker is clearly marked “Clemens Wagner, Braunschweig” and “57” for size on the interior. The cap is a gently worn example, with some cracking of the cardboard visor and minor soiling of the interior, but is otherwise in overall extremely fine condition.
