A Mint Late War Waffen-SS M43 Field Cap Constructed of Captured Italian Gabardine
This is an extremely well preserved M43 Waffen-SS service cap, constructed of captured Italian gabardine (trikot) cloth, with fold-down panels with squared scallops to the front and forward sides, covering the entire neck on the sides and rear when in use. Uniquely, this SS cap features white Officer’s piping along the crown. When not in use, the panels are raised with their ends resting upon the visor, being joined together via two aluminum olive-drab painted buttons. The visor is reinforced with cardboard, and covered in matching gabardine cloth. Sewn in place in the front of the cap is a standard BeVo style SS cap trapezoid. constructed of machine woven grey and green threading in the shape of a standard SS eagle, and an SS Skull. It appears original to the cap and are machine-sewn to the outside fabric. The interior of the cap is lined with grey rayon blended herringbone twill that is stamped “57” for sizing, with the addition of a khaki-coloured non-perforated pressed leather sweatband towards the front of the cap. Overall, this cap measures approximately 260 mm x 190 mm, with a 19 cm interior diameter, in near mint/mint condition.
