A Mint Waffen-SS Officer’s Private Purchase Visor Cap by W. Welhausen
eMedals is pleased to offer this absolutely mint and complete Waffen-SS Officer’s private purchase visor cap by Wilhelm Welhausen. The exterior of this finely crafted visor cap consists of high quality Mützentrikot (cap tricot) with a fine twill weave (Körperbnindung) pattern of parallel running ribs of medium width and height, showing light fuzzing indicative of having been felted. The cap features a traditional high peak crown with tightly seated and even white corded piping, running along the crown of the cap, as well as the top and bottom edges of the cap band. The cap band itself is constructed of extremely high quality 42 mm wide black felt, and is completely free of bumps, holes, or signs of tampering. The insignia of the cap consist of a very detailed Waffen-SS cap eagle, constructed of silvered cupal. It sits snug, and nearly perfectly centered towards the top of the cap. The second pattern (1934-1945) Waffen-SS skull sits centred on the cap band, and is equally constructed of silvered cupal. The visor is crafted of Vulkanfiber with a molded raised ridge running along the brim. It is lacquered in glossy black on the obverse, and is coloured warm grey with a criss-cross pattern underside, remaining firmly attached to the cap. The chin cord consists of a main cord crafted of multiple thick strands of twisted bullion cords, as well as two sliders constructed of four strands of thin twisted bullion cord, and is attached to either side of the cap via a silvered pebbled metal (magnetic) button. The interior of the cap is lined in silvery satin that is firmly stitched into place using white twill. The crown portion of the cap also features a clear celluloid diamond that is embossed “Wilhelm Welhausen, Hannover-Kassel” along with the maker’s stylized logo, stitched in place using off-white coloured twill. Towards the edge of the cap is also a warm grey leather sweatband that is perforated towards the front, with an orange foam sweat absorption pad underneath. The interior of the sweat band depicts some writing in blue ink - it is largely undecipherable, but is probably writing from the maker. This cap has an interior circumference of 185 mm, and measures 250 mm x 235 mm overall. This is a fine quality private purchase cap that was crafted by Wilhelm Welhausen with great care. It is completely untouched, and appears unused, without signs of wear or damage from storage of any kind. It overall in absolutely mint condition.
