Germany. A Waffen-SS NCO’s Visor “Crusher” Cap
(Waffen-SS Dienstmütze). Constructed of field gray average grade wool, and low “crushed” sides due to the crown-supporting ring being removed. The crown is ordained with fine white cotton piping, with the same piping also on the top and bottom edges of the cap band. The cap band is crafted of fine black gabardine wool and is decorated with a silvered zink eagle insignia on the peak of the cap. Directly below the white piping, in the centre of the cap, is a second pattern SS visor skull in silvered zink. The visor is crafted of glossy black lacquered Vulkanfiber, with a raised molded ridge running along the outer brim. The underside of the visor is lightly textured in a checkered pattern and is painted in a pale brown colour. The two-piece black leather chin strap rests directly on the visor, featuring adjustment buckles on either side of the cap, with an additional central loop below the skull. It is slotted and wrapped around black finished magnetic metal buttons on either side of the cap. On the interior, this cap features a chocolate-brown coloured and un-perforated sweatband. It is sewn together at the back of the cap and then attached to the interior of the via light brown cotton twill. The sidewalls of the cap are lined in pale blended fabric. The dome is lined in matching fabric, sporting a diamond-shaped celluloid moisture shield. The crown of the cap measures approximately 220 mm (w) x 246 mm (h). Overall, this cap shows some signs of wear and aging, such as some loss to the silver finish on the insignia on the exterior, as well as sweat stains on the fabric on the interior. In overall very fine condition.
