Germany, SS. A II Pattern Allgemeine-SS NCO’s Visor Cap
(SS Dienstmütze). The visor cap is constructed of black wool with white piping along the top and flanking edges. A silvered bronze eagle holding a wreathed black swastika decorates the visor’s peak, and on the band below rests a first pattern silvered tombak jawless skull. A two-piece black leather chinstrap rests upon the visor and houses magnetic length adjustment buckles on either side, with a central loop below the skulls, wrapping around black-finished magnetic buttons on either side. The visor is constructed of black Vulkanfiber, giving it a leather-look. The underside of the visor is synthetic, cross-hatched, and finished in a light tan. The tan-coloured leather sweatband is perforated along the front edge with five tiny rows of ventilation holes, the ends meet at the rear and are riveted together. The sidewalls of the cap are lined in champagne-coloured rayon, the dome lined in a rust-coloured synthetic, moisture-resistant fabric, and brandishing a diamond-shaped celluloid moisture shield. The manufacturer’s label is glued to the underside at the right rear, the label printed in black ink with a large RZM on the right side, marked “SS DIENSTMÜTZE” (“SS SERVICE HAT”), “Vertriebsstelle Nr.,” “Herstellerfirma Nr." (Manufacturer), the manufacturer's number stamp beside faded, “Mitgliedsnummer des Trägers,” inscribed “Unbefugter Besitz parteiamtlicher Kleidungsstücke wird laut Verordnung des Reichspräsidenten vom 21. 3. 1933 mit Gefängnis bis zu 2 Jahren bestraft,” (Unauthorized possession of party garments is punishable by imprisonment of up to 2 years according to the decree of the Reich President of March 21, 1933) above “N. S. D. A. P. Reichszeugmeisterei” and number stamped "056243.” The cap measures 247 mm (w) x 273 mm (l) x 157 mm (h). The visor cap exhibits black paint chipping on the swastika and silver wear on the skull. It is clean and free of staining and mothing, and is in overall extremely fine condition.
