Germany, SS. A Waffen-SS EM/NCO’s M43 Field Cap
(Waffen-SS Einheitsfeldmütze). This is an extremely well-preserved Waffen-SS M43 field cap, constructed of field-grey gabardine wool. The crown of the cap is fully lined with a band of white piping, indicating infantry personnel. The cap features fold-down side panels providing neck and ear protection for the wearer which, when not in use, are rolled up and fastened together by two pebbled magnetic metal buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. The peak features an insignia in the form of a field-grey rayon trapezoid bearing a machine-embroidered second form SS eagle above a Totenkopf, with the overall insignia measuring 55 mm (w) x 42 mm (h). The exterior features are completed by a protruding visor with a fully intact cardboard reinforcement. Stitched into the reverse of the visor is a tan-coloured leather sweatband which encompasses the forehead area. The interior of the cap is fully lined with a grey rayon liner, the top of which bears a black ink size stamp of “76”. It is otherwise unmarked and measures approximately 195 mm (w) x 2608mm (l) x 130 mm (h). Minor soiling and material fatigue is evident, but the cap is in an otherwise near extremely fine condition.
