Germany, Waffen-SS. A EM/NCO’s M43 Field Cap
(Waffen-SS Einheitsfeldmütze). An extremely well-preserved late-war Waffen-SS M43 field cap, constructed of field-grey Italian gabardine wool. The cap features fold-down side panels offering optional neck and ear protection for the wearer which, when not in use, are folded up and joined together by a single brown magnetic metal button on the right flap meeting a reinforced buttonhole on the left flap. The left flap bears an insignia in the form of a white threaded BeVo-stye SS eagle on a black rayon backer, measuring 70 mm (w) x 35 mm (h). Pinned into the peak of the cap is a zink Totenkopf, measuring 30 mm (w) x 30 mm (h). The Totenkopf is missing one if its reverse attachment prongs. It features a protruding cardboard-reinforced visor set securely into the body of the cap. The interior is fully lined with a field-grey herringbone cotton liner bearing stamps of “BERVEN” and “PADOVA”, as well as a size stamp of “57”. Measuring approximately 180 mm (w) x 260 mm (l) x 130 mm (h). A small patch of mothing is evident to the crown, and there is minor material fatigue to the exterior of the cap. It is in an otherwise better than very fine condition.
