Germany, Waffen-SS. An M43 Officer’s Field Cap
(Waffen-SS M43 Feldmütze). Constructed of grey rayon blended wool cloth, with fold-down panels with squared scallops to the front and forward sides, covering the entire neck on the sides and rear when in use. This SS cap features even white woolen Officer’s piping along the crown. When not in use the panels are raised with their ends resting upon the visor, being joined together via two magnetic pebbled buttons. The visor is reinforced with cardboard, and covered in matching gabardine cloth. Sewn in place in the front of the cap is a standard BeVo style SS trapezoid, constructed of machine-woven grey and threading in the shape of an SS eagle and SS skull on a green woven base. It appears to be original to the cap and machine-sewn to the outside fabric. The interior of the cap is lined with a grey silk liner that is stamped “56” in black ink for sizing, with a khaki-coloured non-perforated pressed leather sweatband towards the front of the cap. It is in worn condition, with light soiling throughout, as well as with light to moderate wear to the piping on the crown and on the sweatband on the interior. It is in overall near very fine condition.
