Germany, Waffen-SS. An NCO’s Visor Cap, by SUBA Mützenerzeugung
(Waffen-SS Unteroffizier Schirmmütze). Constructed of fine quality manufacture grey Mützentrakot (cap tricot) with a fine twill weave (Körperbindung) pattern of parallel running ribs of medium width and height. The cap features a traditional high peak crown with tightly seated and white braided Officer’s piping, running along the crown of the cap, as well as the top and bottom edges of the cap band. The cap band itself is constructed of high quality black wool, and is completely free of bumps, holes, or signs of tampering. The insignia of the cap consist of a Waffen-SS cap eagle, constructed of silvered zink. It sits snug, and nearly perfectly centred towards the top of the cap. The second pattern Waffen-SS skull sits centered on the cap band, and is equally constructed of silvered zink. The visor is constructed of Vulkanfiber, with a molded raised ridge running along the brim. It is lacquered in glossy black on the obverse, and is coloured brown with a criss-cross pattern on the underside, remaining firmly attached to the cap. The chin cord consists of a main cord crafted of black leather, as well as two sliders constructed of matching looped black leather, and is attached to either side of the cap via a black magnetic button. The interior of the cap is lined in a silvery celluloid fabric. The crown portion of the cap also features a clear celluloid diamond that encloses a paper tag that is marked “SUBA Mützenerzeugung - Vyroba Cepic”, stitched in place using dark green twill. Towards the edge of the cap is also a chocolate brown leather sweatband. This cap is completely unmarked. The silver finish has started to dissipate, but it is overall well preserved. The leather sweatband exhibits extensive cracks throughout. This cap remains in overall near extremely fine condition.
