Mecklenburg-Schwerin. A First War Period Order of the Griffin; Grand Cross Set
A First War period Grand Cross set from an old European collection. Sash badge in silver gilt with extremely well executed red enamels, unmarked, measuring 68.8 mm x 74.5 mm, on a full-length sash, thin yet visible enamel hairline crack evident on 3 o'clock on the reverse arm; and impressive Breast Star of multi-piece construction, in silver gilt with red enamels, maker marked "H. ROSE SCHWERIN" on the reverse cartouche, measuring 83.5 mm x 84.3 mm, vertical pinback, intact enamels, dark patina. Both of excellent quality manufacture, better than extremely fine.
