An 1813 Iron Cross Second Class from the Estate of Karl von Hanstein

A fine iron cross with silver frame and complete, intact iron core, measuring 41mm, silver frame slightly pulling away from core at reverse 10 o'clock knee, on long, wide original ribbon, an excellent example in better than very fine condition. Acquired from the estate of Major Friedrich Franz von Hanstein.

Footnote: Karl Georg Anton Friedrich von Hanstein was born on October 27, 1809 in Ershauifen-Unterhof (district of Heiligenstadt), to his father, Friedrich Adolf Heinrich Christian Franz von Hanstein, and his mother, Friederike Charlotte von Hanstein. His father was born on December 31, 1771 in Ershaufen, retired from the Army as a Major, and died on December 15, 1838 in Schippenbeil. His mother was born on September 24, 1788 in Romsdorf, and died on December 15, 1848 in Schippenbeil.

June 16 to September 30, 1860: director of combined division school of the 1st A. K. (?)

July 1, 1860: Lieutenant Colonel

June 22, 1861: Commander of the Infantry Regiment No. 16

September 20, 1861: Red Eagle Order 3rd Class with Ribbon

October 18, 1861: Colonel

February 11, 1865: Retirement as Major General with pension

Died July 1, 1877 in Königsberg (Prussia)

Marriage: February 27, 1839 in Königsberg with Hermine Jeanette Mathilde von Barnekow, born October 11, 1812, died January 31, 1856 in Königsberg.
