(Orden von Zähringer Löwen Kommanderkreuz mit Schwertern). Instituted on 26 December 1812 by Karl, Grand Duke of Baden. Issue 1866-1918. A silver gilt four armed star with arabesques in each quadrant, each arm set with green glass, obverse centre featuring an enameled medallion and hand painted ruins of the “Stammschloss Zähringen”, with Gold swords, surrounded by a gilt beaded ring, reverse centre with a central red enameled medallion depicting a golden rampant lion, with elongated silver loop marked 900 and Silber, measuring 49.20 mm (w) x 53.57 mm (h), weighing 38 g, on mid 20th century ribbon, light wear with oxidization, remains near extremely fine.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
