(Orden vom Zähringer Löwen Ritterkreuz II. Klasse mit Schwertern). Instituted on December 26, 1812 by Grand Duke Charles. Military Division. In silver gilt, a latin cross with a large green cut stone in each arm, ornate arabesque patterns in each quadrant, with crossed gilt swords piercing the central medallion which presents the hand painted ruins of the Stammschloss (family castle) Zähringen, the reverse medallion presents a rampant right facing lion, measures 40.0mm (w) x 42.3mm (h - inclusive of integral ring), weighs 23.1 grams (including ribbon), worn on replacement ribbon, unmarked, lovely patina, enamels intact, stones with very minor chips, in extremely fine condition.
