Baden, Grand Duchy. An Order of the Zähringer Lion in Gold, 1st Class Commander, c.1890
(Orden vom Zähringer Löwen). Instituted 1812. A finely made cross in Gold consisting of four green glass arms, framed in Gold, ornate Gold designs in each quadrant, obverse centre applique depicting a hand painted tribal symbol of the Zähringers, revese centre in red enamel with Gold lion of Zähringer, measuring 49 mm (w) x 53 mm (h - inclusive of intragrel ring suspenion), weighing 23.4 grams, with period section of silk ribbon, near extremely fine.
