(Orden von Zähringer Löwen Ritterkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern). Instituted on 26 December 1812 by Karl, Grand Duke of Baden. Issued 1866-1918. The cross pattée is constructed of green glass, with silver arabesques between the arms of the cross, in addition to crossed, golden swords between the arms of the cross, obverse centre medallion depicts the ruins of the ancestral castle of Zähringer, surrounded by a golden coiled ring, reverse centre has a red enameled medallion depicting a golden rampant lion surrounded by a golden coiled ring, hallmarked with “800” on the 6 o’clock arm of the cross, measuring 40.04 mm (w) x 43.84 mm (h), weighing 27.2 g, on ring suspended from period original green and orange ribbon, near extremely fine.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
