Baden, Duchy. An Order of the Zähringer Lion in Gold, I Class Knight, c.1880
(Orden von Zähringer Löwen Ritterkreuz 1. Klasse). Instituted on 22 January 1809. (1815-1918 Issue). A cross pattée constructed of green glass, with Gold arabesques between the arms of the cross, the obverse centre medallion depicts the ruins of the ancestral castle of Zähringer, surrounded by a golden coiled ring, the reverse centre has a red enameled medallion depicting a Gold rampant lion surrounded by a golden coiled ring, unmarked, measuring 38.29 mm (w) x 42.76 mm (h), on loop suspended from period original green and orange ribbon, and in overall extremely fine condition.
