Bavaria, Kingdom. A Military Order of St. George, Commander’s Cross Breast Star, by Julius Elchinger
(Orden vom heiligen Georg Bruststern zum Komturkreuz). Instituted 20 March 1729 by Elector Karl Albrect (later Holy Roman Emperor Karl VII). (1729-1918 issue). Constructed of silver with enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross completing in ball finials, the obverse of the arms overlaid by blue enamels set within a pebbled border, joined together through the quadrants by silver and blue enameled diamonds with similarly pebbled borders, with a central pebbled silver disc overlaid by a narrow red enameled Geneva Cross, in turn surrounded by a pebbled silver ring, the reverse with right visible rivets securing the obverse features in place, with a raised barrel hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, maker marked “JUL. ELCHINGER, HAUSINGER, MÜNCHEN”, measuring 65.72 mm (w) x 64.88 mm (h), weighing 39.7 grams, a large chip is visible to the enamel of the three o’clock arm, in near extremely fine condition.
