Bavaria, Kingdom. A Pilot’s Badge, by Carl Poellath
(Flugzeugführerabzeichen). Constructed of silver, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Bavarian royal crown, around a central depiction of a monoplane flying over a rural landscape, the reverse with a raised barrel hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a round wire cach, maker marked “KARL POELLATH, SCHROBENHAUSEN” (reflective of the early alternative spelling of the firm of Carl Poellath) above an inscription of “SILBER”, measuring 45.60 mm (w) x 74.18 mm (h), weighing 27.8 grams, a striking badge in extremely fine condition.
