This is a grouping of awards with some personal items belonging to Dr. Lorenz Kuchtner of the Artillery Regiment 369. It consists of  1) A Grouping of three first and second war medal ribbon bars, 2) A Clasp to the Iron Cross 1939 First Class, 3) A Silver Grade Wound Badge, 4) A Set of Gasmask Glasses, 5) A Croatian Order of the Iron Trefoil Second Class with its prelimiany award certificate, 6) A Hindenburg Cross with Swords, 7) A  Grouping of Two Stick Pins, 8) A Grouping of Insignia.

 

1) A Grouping of three first and second war medal ribbon bars - Two identical ribbon bars, consisting of an Iron Cross 1914 ribbon with Clasp to the Iron Cross 1939 miniature, a Bavarian Military Order of Merit ribbon with miniature crossed swords, an Eastern Winter Campaign Medal ribbon, a Hindenburg Cross ribbon with miniature crossed swords, a Wehrmacht 4-Year Long Service ribbon with miniature eagle, and a Leopold Jubilee Medal ribbon; unmarked; measuring 91 mm (w) x 18 mm (h) - One ribbon bar, consisting of an Iron Cross 1914 ribbon with  Clasp to the Iron Cross 1939 miniature, an Eastern Winter Campaign Medal ribbon, a Long and Devoted Long Service Cross ribbon, and a Hindenburg Cross ribbon with miniature crossed swords; maker marked “J. Reimann” on the reverse; measuring 76 mm (w) x 17 mm (h).

 

2) A silver grade wound badge; oval shaped silvered zink; the obverse pebbled with a Stahlhelm in the centre featuring a large mobile swastika on its side superimposed on crossed swords within a wreath of laurel leaves with a tied bow at the bottom; the reverse plain with a vertical needle style pin, integrated hinge, and integrated catch; maker marked “Klein & Quenzer, Lüdenscheid” on the reverse; measuring 36.49 mm (w) x 43.90 mm (h). In its case of issue; constructed of heavy cardstock, with a burgundy faux leather (leatherette) exterior; with a functional exterior leatherette hinge; measuring 68 mm (w) x 68 mm (h).

 

3) A Clasp the to Iron Cross 1939 First Class; Second Type; constructed of silvered bronze; vertical pinback, with a functional hinge/catch assembly; unmarked; measuring 44.09 mm (w) x 29.75 mm (h).

 

4) A set of Gasmask Glasses; constructed of zink, with two round glass lenses, without temple-bars, but instead with a grey strings that allows the glasses to be fastened onto the face; accompanied by instructions on how to property shorten the strings, along with a unissued set of strings; with a card including the owner’s name - being “Dr. Kuchtner”, rank - being “Hauptmann”, and date issued - being “11.6.1938”, price - being “1.25 RM”, and prescription strength - being -2; accompanied by their original metal case, constructed of grey painted metal (magnetic); measuring 130 mm (w) x 50 mm (h).

 

5) A Croatian Order of the Iron Trefoil Second Class; constructed of non-magnetic metal, with a black core; with a vertical replacement pin on the reverse; measuring 50.74 mm (w) x 51.16 mm (h); weighing 28.3 grams. The preliminary award certificate for the award of Iron Trefoil 2nd Class, awarded to German Officer, Oberleutnant (Kdeur.Art.Rgt.369) Dr. Lorenz Kuchtner, "for exemplary conduct as a commander of the Croatian 369th Infantry Regiment artillery during the battles against the rebels on the territory of Bosnia & Herzegovina, from January until March of 1943, displaying a brave conduct". It is dated in Zagreb, 25 March,1943; original signature in ink by Army Minister and knight Vilko Begic on the left; and on the right original signature in ink by the Head of the Independent State of Croatia, A. Pavelić. It measures 210 mm x 330 mm.

 

6) A Hindenburg Cross “Ehrenkreuz des Weltkriegs 1914/1918”; a bronzed metal (magnetic) cross pattée with crossed swords between the arms of the cross; the obverse inscribed with “1914/1918” within an open-ended laurel wreath; the reverse plain; maker marked with an unknown mark on the reverse; measuring 37.44 mm (w) x 37.55 mm (h); weighing 13.4 grams.

 

7) A Grouping of two stick pins, consisting of 1) A Veteran’s Association Membership Stick Pin; in bronzed aluminum; 43 mm long needle pin; marked “Ges. Gesch.” on the reverse; measuring 24 mm (w) x 13 mm (h). 2) A Bund Freikorps Epp Stick Pin; constructed of gilded bronze, and black and green enamels; 51 mm long needle pin; maker marked “Wittmann, München” on the reverse; measuring 18 mm (w) x 30 mm (h).

 

8) A Grouping of Insignia, consisting of 1) A Set of Bund Freikorps Epp Officer’s Collar Tabs; constructed of black wool with golden bullion piping on all four edges, with a bronze lion’s insignia on the obverse - with two spare insignia separate; measuring 58 mm (w) x 95 mm (h); 2) A Wehrmacht Officer’s Visor Cap Wreath and Cockade; constructed of rolled, twisted, and flat silver aluminum bullion wires on a padded green wool backer - with a non-matching metal cockade; with black paper backing on the reverse - with loose threads still attached from being attached to a cap; measuring 62 mm (w) x 43 mm (h), 3) A Croatian Ustasha insignia; constructed of aluminum, with three drill holes, and one hole from premature wear; measuring 20 mm (w) x 29 mm (h).

 

9) A WWII Croatian Preliminary Award Document (Vorschlag), Signed by A. Pavelić

 

 

A large size document (21cm x 33cm), for the award of Iron Trefoil 2nd Class, awarded to German Officer, Oreleutnant (Kdeur.Art.Rgt.369) Dr. Lorenz Kuchtner, "for exemplary conduct as a commander of the Croatian 369th Infantry Regiment artillery during the battles against the rebels on the territory of Bosnia & Herzegovina, from January until March of 1943, displaying a brave conduct". 

 

Dated in Zagreb, 25 March,1943; original signature in ink by Army Minister and knight Vilko Begic on the left; and on the right original signature in ink by the Head of the Independent State of Croatia, A. Pavelić. Document is slightly soiled, in fine condition.
