Bavaria, Kingdom. A Merit Cross for Volunteer Nurses with 1914 Clasp, c.1914
(Verdienstkreuz für freiwillige Krankenpflege mit Spange 1914). Instituted 5 March 1901 by Prince Regent Luitpold. (1901-1918 issue). Constructed of silver with enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with “1914” clasp, consisting of a Cross Pattée with pebbled arms, the obverse with a central enameled medallion consisting of a red Geneva Cross on a white background, within a ring of blue enamel, the reverse with a central raised Bavarian coat of arms, unmarked, measuring 34.27 mm (w) x 41.65 mm (h), weighing 15.4 grams (inclusive of ribbon), in near extremely fine condition.
