Bavaria, Kingdom. A Military Memorial Cross for 1813-1814

(Militärdenkzeichen für 1813-1814). Instituted 4 December 1814 by King Maximilian Joseph I. (1817-1818 issue). Constructed of blackened and gilded bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse with a central medallion bearing a raised monogram of King Maximilian Joseph, the arms bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR DIE JAHRE 1813 UND 1814” (“FOR THE YEARS 1813 and 1814”), the reverse with a central medallion bearing a raised Bavarian lion rampant, the arms bearing a raised inscription of “KÖNIG UND VATERLAND” (“KING AND FATHERLAND”), unmarked, measuring 32.08 mm (w) x 38.17 mm (h), weighing 11.5 grams, in near extremely fine condition.
