(Militärische Haus Ritter Orden vom heiligen Georg Bruststern der Komture) A silver Maltese cross with silver ball finals; the obverse with a center medallion depicting a red enameled cross in the center, and blue enameled arms; with blue chequered decorative motifs inbetween the arms; the reverse with a central silver medallion, maker marked “Quellhorst” for “Juwelier und Goldarbeiter Eduard Quellhorst in München” on the reverse; with a unique dual-prong vertical pinback, a single barrel hinge, and rual round wire catches; measuring 60.40 mm (w) x 61.15 mm (h); with the loss of one chequered decorative motifs, as well as the white enamels of the center medallion missing; in overall better than fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
