Bavaria, Kingdom. An Order of St. Michael, Silver Merit Medal, by Alois Börsch
(Orden vom Heiligen Michael, Silberne Verdienstmedaille). Instituted 29 September 1693. (1887-1918 issue). Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension, the obverse bearing a raised and finely-detailed depiction of St. Michael trampling the devil, clutching a shield bearing a raised inscription of “QUIS ET DEUS” (“WHO IS LIKE GOD?”), on top of a ribbed Cross Pattée, the reverse bearing a raised central inscription of “VIRTUTI” (“VIRTUE”) within an oak leaf wreath, the obverse marked “A. BÖRSCH” for the firm of Alois Börsch, measuring 35.80 mm in diameter, weighing 20.2 grams, with minor wear evident, in overall near extremely fine condition.
