An untouched and extremely well preserved Bavarian Order of Theresa Breast Cross; c.1880; awarded strictly to ladies with gold Maltese cross,with blue, white, and green enamels; the obverse with a gilt “T” in the center, surrounded by a ring of white enamels with green floral designs; with blue/white checkered inlays between the arms of the cross; the reverse with “1827” in gold in the center of the cross within a medallion of white enamels, surrounded by a ring of white enamels with gold lettering reading “Iroenleren sei glaube an Dasewige” (German - Our life on earth: Belief in the everlasting); suspended from a swivel crown suspension; with a horizontally-pierced ball and ring suspension; with its period original ribbon; unmarked but of French manufacture; measuring 40.58 mm (w) x 65.13 mm (h - with crown suspension); weighing 25.9 grams; with only minimal contact marks from gentle period wear; in overall virtually mint condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
