(Herzoglich Braunschweigischer Orden Heinrichs des Löwen, Kreuz 4. Klasse mit Schwertern). Instituted on April 25, 1834 by Herzog Wilhelm. (Issued 1879-1918). A Latin cross in silver with pebbled arms, with gilt crossed swords between the arms of the cross, the obverse with a central red enameled medallion bearing a white horse infront of a column, surrounded by a gilt ring topped by a royal crown in gilt, the reverse with with a red enameled medallion, inscribed “IMMOTA FIDES” (Loyalty is Unbreakable), surrounded by a gilt ring, on a loop for suspension from a period original ribbon, measuring 39.84 mm (w) x 39.87 mm (h), weighing 20.8 grams, in overall very fine.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
