Braunschweig, Duchy. An Order of Henry the Lion, II Class Knight’s Cross, Civil Division
(Orden Heinrich des Löwen Ritterkreuz II. Klasse). Instituted 25 April 1834 by Duke Wilhelm. (1877-1918 issue). Constructed of silvered with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross with blue enameled arms, all completing in ball finials and with arms joined through the quadrants by crowned monograms, the three, nine, and twelve o’clock arms bearing peacock feathers, the six o’clock arm bearing a knight’s helmet with feathers, with a central red enameled medallion bearing a hand-painted Braunschweig horse, the reverse with a central red enameled medallion bearing a silvered inscription of “IMMOTA FIDES” (“UNSHAKEABLE FAITH”), surrounded by a silver ring bearing a raised institution date, topped by a fan suspension with a lion passant and crown connecting to a period original parade-configured ribbon, without visible marks, measuring 39.13 mm (w) x 59.92 mm (H), weighing 24.8 grams (inclusive of ribbon), demonstrating some flecking to the enamels and wear of the ribbon, in near extremely fine condition.
