Braunschweig, Duchy. An Order of Henry the Lion, Officer’s Cross
(Orden Heinrich des Löwen, Offizierkreuz). Instituted 25 April 1833. (1908-1918 issue). Constructed of gilded silver with Gold and multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross, the obverse with blue enameled arms, with a central red enameled medallion with a ribbed and radiant background motif, overlaid by a hand-painted white horse in mid-jump, overlaid a stylized column, set within a Gold ring topped by a raised royal crown, the reverse with an elongated barrel hinge and gently tapering banjo-style pinback meeting a rounded catch, unmarked, measuring 58.14 mm (w) x 58.82 mm (h), weighing 21.8 grams, with only minor scratching evident to the enamels, in overall extremely fine condition.
