Braunschweig, Dutchy. An Order of Henry the Lion, 2nd Class Knight, c.1910
(Orden Heinrichs des Löwen Ritterkreuz 2. Klasse). Issued 1877-1918. A silver Maltese cross with ball finals and light blue enameled arms, with a crowned royal cipher of Wilhelm between each of the arms; the obverse with a central enameled medallion depicting a white Hannoverian horse in-front of a column, the enamels of the arms with gold painted wheat stalks, with a knight’s armour helmet on the six o’clock arm; the reverse with a central red enameled medallion, inscribed “Im Mota Fides” (Latin - Unimpaired), surrounded by a silver ring, dated “MDCCCXXXIV” (1834); the top of the cross decorated with a lion and a Hannoverian crown between two laurel leaf stems; on a pierced horizontal ball suspension - the loop marked with the maker’s mark of “F. Siebrecht, Braunschweig”, with a crown and crescent moon, as well as “900” for silver contnet; accompanied by a period original ribbon; measuring 40.00 mm (w) x 60.83 mm (w) x 60.86 mm (h - including its crown suspension); the ribbon damaged from period wear, but in overall extremely fine condition.
