Braunschweig. A War Merit Cross, Second Class, with Miniature Pennant and Paper Packet
(Braunschweigisches Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse). Issued 1914-1918. A cross pattee of dark bronze; the obverse depicting a royal crown, “EA” for “Ernst August”, “1914”, as well as two pairs of oak leaves; the reverse inscribed “Für Verdienst im Kriege” (German - For Meir at War); on a double loop suspension from its period original ribbon; measuring 30.40 mm (w) x 34.41 mm (h). With its miniature; measuring 16.13 mm (w) x 18.66 mm (h). With its original paper packet of issue; with “Herzoglich Braunschweigisches Kriegs-Verdienstkreuz” in black lettering on the obverse, and “Herm Jürgens - Hofjuwilier Braunschweig” on the reverse; measuring 76 mm (w) x 83 mm (h); in overall extremely fine condition.
