Germany, Duchy of Brunswick. A Waterloo Medal 1815, 3rd Line Battalion
(Waterloo Medaille) Instituted in 1818. In bronze from captured French cannons, officially impressed "CHRN. PHILIPPS. 3. LIN. BAT." on the edge, obverse illustrating the left-facing Duke of Brunswick, Frederick William, surrounded by the inscription "Friedrich Wilhelm Herzog", engraver marked "G. Hassler" at the base of the bust, reverse is dated "1815" in the centre, surrounded by a wreath of oak and laurels, surrounded by the inscription "Braunschweig Seinen Kriegern / Quatrebras und Waterloo" (Brunswick to her Warriors / Quatre Bras and Waterloo), measuring 35.3 mm in diameter, spotting, on a period ribbon, near extremely fine.
Footnote: The Waterloo Medal was a campaign medal of the Duchy of Brunswick. The medal was awarded to troops and officers from Brunswick who participated in the Battles of Quatre Bras and Waterloo.
