Hamburg, Free City. A Hanseatic Cross
An example of a Hanseatic Cross of the Free City of Hamburg; a Maltese cross of silvered bronze with red enameled arms; the obverse depicting an outline of the Hamburg castle; the reverse plain, inscribed “Für Verdienst im Kriege, 1914” in Gothic lettering; on a double loop suspension from its correct replacement ribbon; measuring 40.05 mm (w) x 40.00 mm (h); weighing 18.9 grams; light contact marks from age, but in overall near extremely fine condition.
