Hesse-Damstadt, Grand Duchy. An Order of the Golden Lion, Collar Type III (Collectors Copy)
(Goldener Löwen Orden). Instituted on 14 August 1770. Post-1945 Copy. A collar constructed of gilded silver, consisting of ten lion links and ten crowned shields inscribed FL for Landgraf Friedrich II, linked together in an alternating pattern, measuring 70 cm in total length, with a badge of the Order, also constructed of gilded silver, the obverse centre presenting a lion, surrounded by the inscription VIRTUTE ET FIDELITATE, the reverse presents the inscription FRIEDERICUS II. D.G. HASSIAE LANDGRAVIUS INSTITUT 1770, measuring 44.54 mm (w) x 59.06 mm (h), presenting mild loss of gilt, and in overall very fine condition.
