(Goldener Löwen Orden, Stern). Instituted on 14 August 1770 by Count Friedrich II of Hesse-Cassel. (1876-1918 Issue). An eight-armed silver star, the obverse centre displays a central medallion in blue-enamelled background presenting a Hessian lion, with five red stripes and a golden crown, encircled by a Gold ring, bordered by a ring of carmine-red enamel bearing the motto VIRTUTE ET FIDELITATE (FOR VIRTUE AND FAITH) in silver, bordered by a Gold ring, the reverse presents a dull finish, with a principle pin assembly, unmarked, measuring 88.33 mm (w) x 88.28 mm (h), weighing 51.76 grams, presenting a surface chip between the 6 and 7 o’clock, and in otherwise very fine condition.
