(Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen für Rettung von Menschenleben). Instituted 25 September 1843 by Grand Duke Ludwig II. (1894-1896 issue). Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension, the obverse with a raised leftward-facing profile of Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with an inscription of “FÜR RETTUNG VON MENSCHEN-LEBEN” (“FOR RESCUE OF HUMAN LIFE”), within a laurel and oak leaf wreath, unmarked, measuring 33.06 mm in diameter, weighing 15.9 grams, in extremely fine condition.
