Hesse-Kassel, Landgraviate. A Rare MIlitary Merit Medal, Gold Grade, c.1830
(Goldene Militärverdienstmedaille). Instituted in 1821 by Elector Wilhelm II. (1821-1832 issue). Constructed of gilded silver, the obverse with a central rightward-facing profile of Elector Wilhelm II circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with a central inscription of “DEM VERDIENST” inside of a laurel wreath, tied together at the bottom by a ribbon, the edge with an inscription of “DER BILDENDEN KÜNSTE ACADEMIE” (“THE FINE ARTS ACADEMY”), unmarked, measuring 37.41 mm in diameter, weighing 25.6 grams, in extremely fine condition.
