Hesse-Kassel, Landgraviate. A Civil Merit Cross in Gold, Restrike

(Goldenes Zivilverdienstkreuz). Instituted 1832 by Prince Elector Friedrich Wilhelm in the name of Elector Wilhelm II. (1849-1851 initial issue). Constructed of Gold, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse with a central Oldenburg lion rampant, the arms bearing an inscription of “FÜR VERDIENST UND TREUE” (“FOR MERIT AND LOYALTY”), the reverse arms with an identical inscription, with a centerpiece bearing the monogram of Friedrich Wilhelm, unmarked, measuring 40.94 mm (w) x 44.80 mm (h), weighing 13.7 grams (inclusive of ribbon), a restrike in extremely fine condition.
