(Orden Philipps des Großmüthigen, Ritterkreuz 2. Klasse). Instituted 1 May 1 1840. Type II. 1859-1918 Issue. A white-enameled cross pattée in silver, obverse with a light blue enameled medallion bearing the leftward facing bust of Philip the Magnanimous in Gold, surrounded by a white enameled ring inscribed SI DEUS NOBISCUM QUIS CONTRA NOS (If God is with us, who is against us) in Gold, the reverse with a light blue enameled medallion bearing a rampant lion in multi-coloured enamels, surrounded by a ring of white enamels, inscribed LUDOVIUS III MAGN, DUX HASSIAE in Gold, measuring 33.10 mm (w) x 36.78 mm (h), on a loop for suspension from its period original triangular ribbon, with residue to obverse centre, otherwise near very fine condition.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
