Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Grand Duchy. A Friedrich Franz II Bronze Merit Medal, with Case, by Kullrich, c. 1900
(Verdienstmedaille in Bronze Friedrich Franz II mit Etui). Instituted 28 February 1859 by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II. (1872-1918 issue). Constructed of polished bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, the obverse bearing a central raised rightward-facing profile of Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with a central raised inscription of “DEM VERDIENSTE” (“TO MERIT”), within a circular oak leaf wreath, the obverse maker marked “KULLRICH”, measuring 40.90 mm in diameter, weighing 32.2 grams (inclusive of ribbon), accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a wooden frame with a faux brown leather exterior, the lid with a gilt embossed crown and frame, the interior with a padded blue satin lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted and depressed blue velvet medal bed, opening with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release and a functional metal hinge, unmarked, measuring 68 mm (w) x 106 mm (l) x 30 mm (h), including an extra length of ribbon, with minor material fatigue evident to the case, in overall extremely fine condition.
