1864-1918 Issue. (Hausorden der Wendischen Krone Komturkreuz); Exqusitely made in 18ct Gold with white, red, and blue enamels, with solid gold lions between the arms of the cross; the obverse of the cross with a central medallion of blue enamels, with a raised gold Wendish crown, surrounded by red enamels, inscribed “Per Aspera Ad Astra” (Latin - Through Thick to the Light) in golden lettering; the reverse with a central medallion of blue enamels, inscribed in gold with the royal monograph; suspended from a large golden royal crown suspension attached to the cross, with a double looped ring for suspension from its period original full size ribbon; measuring 64.33 mm (w) x 64.41 mm (w); weighing 60.2 grams; with the enamels very well preserved, free from chips or cracks of any kind, and only minimal contact marks; in absolutely mint condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
