(Militär-Verdienstkreuz I. Klasse). Instituted 28 February 1915 by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV. (1915-1924 issue). Constructed of gilded bronze, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse with ribbed arms, with a central monogram of Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV, the six o’clock arm with a date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with a crimped barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 41.28 mm (w) x 41.12 mm (h), weighing 16.6 grams, in extremely fine condition.
