Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Grand Duchy. A Unique Russian Made Order of the Griffon in Gold, by D.I. Osipov
        (Greifenorden, Großkreuz Miniatur). Instituted 15 September 1884 by Großherzog Friedrich Franz IV. (1884-1918 issue). A unique Gold example of the order, exquisitely manufactured in Gold with enamels, consisting of a red enameled Maltese Cross, obverse with a central pebbled medallion bearing a leftward facing griffin, the reverse plain, the 12 o’clock arm with a pebbled fan bearing a loop for suspension from its period original bowtie-style ribbon, of Russian manufacture, with the same arm bearing a Gold zolotnik mark of “56”, the emblem of the city of St. Petersburg, and Cyrillic maker’s initials of “ДО” for Dmitri Ivanovich Osipov, measuring 34.16 mm (w) x 35.20 mm (h), weighing 9.8 grams inclusive of ribbon, in extremely fine condition.
